Princes On The Run - Song Lyrics
For whatever it means... These are the songs of our first P.O.R. CD released in December 1999.
M/T: Peer-Axel 1996.
This song was written about the time when we met each other to start the band in spring 1996.
It wasn't fixed wheather Vry was going to play accordion or keyboard at that time.
Still there is a recording in our memory where he plays electronic Xylo-bells.
We heard this 17th century singalong first on the Chumbawamba "English Rebel Songs" compilation.
On our first giogs we were amazed that everyone suddenly listened when we sang this in the end
of our set. Always again it's pretty hard to get the verses into the right order.
Wanna know more about diggers?
the German band Apparatschik inspired us to this Russian traditional.
M+T: Peer-Axel Nov.1996. You really have to give up dreams
when you start earning or climb up that ladder. Or you're very lucky. Or very dumb.
M+T: Peer-Axel 1996.
The House Martins inspired us.
M+T: Okko 1996.
M+T: Peer-Axel Okt. 1999. Written in our rehearsal week (which was more like relaxing) in
a summer house in Klegod, Denmark.
It was raining all the time and we became wet more than once.
The sun was only shining for one day but that's enough top change one's thoughts.
M+T: Peer-Axel 1994.
M+T: Peer-Axel Dec 1997.
M+T: Peer-Axel Dec 1997.
M+T: Peer-Axel Dec 1997.
M+T: Peer-Axel Dec 1997.
M+T: Peer-Axel Oct 1999. The 2nd song written in this rehearsal week in Klegod. Remembering
so many good parties in the last 10 years.
M+T: Okko+Vry. Used to be a Strawberry Alarmclock song which had never been recorded before.
M+T: Peer-Axel Nov 1998. Written in a hotel in Lübeck.
Princes On The Run
A girl looked at the front page of a magazine that covered a dream she had dreamt so many times there was no prince on a horse but to her it looked that way so she wasn't sure if she shouldn't better fall in love Disappointment grew she couldn't understand why it never ever really worked that way the boys she took home for one night never wanted to spend all their nights with her Her eyes were always wet when she took them to her bed she always used to fall in love when the prince came from above The transit road is full of riding princes Do they run away from her (she's a good girl) Why do they always run away from her She always wanted to be a good good girlThe Diggers' Song

The start is already a compromise what they demand and what you give it looks like sacrifice you're supposed to be predictable what they are looking for is everything but you Somebody's skill is still required but everyone is competing all the time it's like a world full of robots waiting to be fed with a dime You wanted so much more but dreams become a luxury to be shared with good friends only you believe that this is all, how can you live so full of doubt time is too short to be wasted it is time for time out what life's about is your time out The more you are adjusted the sooner you'll get promoted the more you just give up yourself friendliness without limits treat any asshole better than your friends Now looking up that ladder, who can survive up there only those who have skipped all their belief you hate their way to argue their philosophy until you hear yourself spaeking their tongue Move into another place you'll soon realize how many friends you really had before too many meetings like nostalgia till there are none of these meetings even more Now running with that mask anyone can see even me when I look into the mirror I've forgotten who I love I've forgotten who I hate I've completely forgotten who I amDependence
Why did you say these things you've said to me Why did you say 'em in the way you did Why did you tell me all those stories Why did you tell 'em in the way you did You know you never ever mean what you say Why can't you be straight And if you wanna say something Why can't you just say it Why did you tell me 'bout all your sick dreams I believe in you anyway Why did you say you wanted to finish your life That's rubbish, come on pull yourself together now You know you've got the power to fight I'm not your teacher or psychologist You know I'm just a friend And if you wanna say something Why can't you just say it I'm giving it up I'm giving it up you soak me out you soak me out I'm telling you things I never really intended to tell I don't like this kind of soul stripping where is your dignity where is my pride You know you've got the power to fight You know you've got the power to fightWe Shall Not Be Moved
We shall not be moved ... Just like a tree standing by the waterside oh we shall not be movedSolo Tracks
Please Go
Thinking of you Who's always telling lies to me To whom you're supposed to spend your love to spend your life with Turn away I don't wanna see your face anymore Unless you stop pretending everything's all right Please go Or I'm going to smash your face Please go I don't wanna argue anymore Please go Just do me a favour do me a favour Do me a favour do me a favour Leave me now Leave me now Please leave me now Cos I never want to see you again in my life Forget it 'cos I hate you asshole So just leave me alone Looking in your eyes I can already read your mind I can already hear the story You just made up to lie to me Mister Carpenter is looking through these eyes Oh god someday I'm going to smash this mirror into pieces Please go Or I'm going to smash your face Please go I don't wanna argue anymore Please go Just do me a favour do me a favour Do me a favour do me a favour Leave me now Leave me now Please leave me nowThe Girls That Walk Along The Street
The sun on the blue sky Is shining is shining on my feet Beautiful So beautiful and nice Are the girls that walk along the street See them laughing And talking In a language Strange is what I hear I give them a smile And they smile back at me And their talking is music to my ears I give them another smile And they smile back at me And their talking sounds like music to my ears I give them one more smile And they smile back at me Dab dah dah dab dah dah dah dah dah dahWondering About A Friend
I've been sitting in my room And thinking about ... Maybe it was you The clock on the wall said 21-48 I said to myself that this is too late I was wondering about a friend Was it more than a friend in the end? You know this could also happen to you Whatever you think whatever you do You know folks say it's never too late until you try So I was sitting there Wondering why I was wondering about a friend Was it more than a friend in the end?Unable To Speak
An unknown tension is flooding my body I'm quiet not moving unable to face That you don't know 'bout me at all Slow pace when am I going to fall Upset and tired just wanna cry out Return in my bed hide my head Ignore that I see you tonight We just might start to find a way now wouldn't it be great I know I'm just dreaming but I don't know my fate Till I'm beginning to hate this whole tension and this weired day Till I'm unable to speak when I meet you A well known tension is flooding my body I'm quiet not moving Now watching your face Can't ignore that you're here tonight And I wonder if the time is rightYour Friends
It's been a pleasure meeting all your friends They look so lively now and I guess they wouldn't mind to dance Dance to the rhythms of terrible bands Maybe they ignore me maybe they come up And ask me what I'm doing here have a little chat And keep on talking till the world becomes flatOld Times
It was around Christmas We went to town like all the other years Playing pool billard checking out bar after bar Till we stopped in a club that I'd been to many times before The crowd was young I only knew the man at the bar And so we talked about things that came up to our minds But most of the time we were talking 'bout old times The was a girl edge of the dancefloor looking around Searching for something she appeared a bit lost and found And another beauty she was hangin' around at the bar She looked really tough with the tattoo on her arm And so we talked about things that came up to our minds But most of the time we were talking 'bout old timesThin Ice
Feels like walkin' on thin ice Another step and you hope not to crush into the cold water Still you're dry and comfortable but you know the ice could melt or break Feels like walkin' on thin ice Feels like walkin' on thin ice A series of bad coincidences could make you fall But it's too late you already made the mistake and you hope nobody's gonna find out But everything depends on this little minor situation And so cold sweat is running down your shoulder because you feel the surface getting thinner and thinner But you just keep right on walking Start to tumble And you hold on6 am
The coffee tastes a bit like water Candles are burnt down to the ground Empty bottles are all across the tables While the last song of the B-side fades away There's a couple that's been dancing for hours And when they kiss it seems to be so right Dawn reaches the windows of this cold room And when the birds start to sing you're awake Someone starts a new record The last guests are about to leave Good friends are sleeping in the backroom Soon it will be summer again In this room it still smells like beer and wine It's full of smoke and when you shut the door The yard is full of cars you're too familliar with 6 am the end of a good dayLight Of The Moon
There's rain pouring down on me Striding thrugh the fields of desperation Gladly woven to the memories of your smile Of the dusty pictures we painted together Which I'll never understand I'll never understand Oh I will never understand Any of these pictures With artificial colours bleeding painlessly Not being able to cry out what they feel You try to impress me Knowin' it would work out Knowing I would try to copy your feelings Which I did I felt happiness sparkling And now that you're gone I got what you meant Saying time is Horst Dreaming mean and dirty dreams of your silken soul Wrapped in leather to pretend some protection From the light of the moon From the light of the moon3 Hours To Go
These miles are too much a distance my love's so far away it might be easier if I justed stayed in one place but now I'm sitting here that's experienced inconvenience, it's difficult to take you know this room appears kind of lonely now but now it's getting late and it's 3 hours to go 3 hours to go moving very slow 3 hours to go We moved in here when the work was done and the place became much quieter and talked about our music and dreams now seeing things very much brighter drained ourf concience and agreed in what it's best to believe determined never stop to play till the sun is going up again and it's 3 hours to go 3 hours to go moving pretty slow 3 hours to goQuestions?
