Existing high screen resolution is not selectable

For some reason, Windows and the menu in the control panel (for Intel HD graphics) only offer me a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 px for my Dell P1130. I know the monitor can go higher.

No .INF file anywhere

Usually the .INF file of the monitor (somewhere in the windows system) defines which resolutions there are. But there is no. It does not help either to install any driver. The reason is simple: The monitor uses DDC. That stands for Display Data Channel. The monitor transfers the resolution information via the cable.

The quick workaround

Turn on the monitor AFTER the system has booted. Then you can select all sorts of resolutions. The settings will remain for every time that you switch on the monitor afterwards.
