IE8 Automation Server error in IE8 caused by DivX software

Internet Explorer 8 showed an error message on any website, even on about:blank Automation server can't create object Line:2670 No matter if line 2670 existed in the regular source code or not

The solution

The previously installed DivX package caused the problem. After an uninstall (Windows system settings->software) the error disappeared. It did not help to disable the referring add-on in the IE8 addon-manager. I found out by checking the source with developer tools in IE8 (click F12). In the <body> tag some javascript was inserted by "body onload": function(element) appendChildOriginal(element); var tag = element.tagName.toLowerCase(); if ("video" == tag) { ProcessVideoElement(element); } }" replaceChild="function(element, reference) { replaceChildOriginal(element, reference); var tag = element.tagName.toLowerCase(); if ("video" == tag) { ProcessVideoElement(element); } }" insertBefore="function(element, reference) { insertBeforeOriginal(element, reference); var tag = element.tagName.toLowerCase(); if ("video" == tag) { ProcessVideoElement(element); } } This looked like a virus but it was the DivX. Starting to debug the script with developer tools it showed that two scripts were automatically loaded, one of them with the buggy line 2670 referring to npdivx32.dll. At this point the javascript was hanging.
